how to apply

Are you a Young Environmental Leader ready to take action in your community? We want to hear from you! Here's what you need to know to apply:

Step 1: Decide which application questions fit best for you:

We have two sets of application questions to fit your specific situation. Please answer all the questions from Option A or all the questions from Option B.
OPTION A: You're fired up about a specific environmental issue and ready to take action to remedy it.

Answer the following questions:
1.     Tell us about you (Who are you? How do you spend your time? What do you put your energy towards?)
2.     What keeps you up at night? What gets you going in the morning?
3.     What local environmental issue are you passionate about trying to change?
4.     What do you think needs to be done to address this local environmental issue?
5.     Why is it important that this local environmental issue be addressed?
6.     Is there anyone who supports you in your passion toward the environment?
(This could be a teacher who offers encouragement, an organization who inspires you, a peer who keeps you motivated or anything in between. We want to know what lights your fire and how it stays lit.)
7.     What is motivating you to apply? What would you bring to the Nova Action cohort?
OPTION B: You're a passionate environmentalist, but not yet sure where to focus your efforts.

Answer the following questions:
1.     Tell us about you (Who are you? How do you spend your time? What do you put your energy towards?)
2.     What keeps you up at night? What gets you going in the morning?
3.     Tell us about the community you live in
4.     What is your favourite place in your community? Why?
5.     How would your community benefit from your involvement in this project?
6.     Is there anyone who supports you in your passion toward the environment?
(This could be a teacher who offers
encouragement, an organization who inspires you, a peer who keeps you motivated or anything in between. We want to know what lights your fire and how it stays lit.)

7.   What is motivating you to apply? What would you bring to the Nova Action cohort?

Step 2: Choose between a written or video application

Regardless of whether you choose to answer the questions from Option A or Option B, you have the choice to answer via a written or video application. Note that for the video submission we’re assessing the CONTENT of the video, not the QUALITY of the video.

written submission

Maximum of 1500 words

video submission

  • Maximum length of 8 minutes
  • You are not judged on the quality of the video, but rather on the content
  • Be creative! Tell us your story

step 3: submit your application

Once you’ve answered the questions to either Option A or Option B (in text or video format), head over to our Application to fill in your personal details and upload your written or video submission.
