Environmental Education Field Program
This program will allow students to participate in hands-on experimental and data collection activities in a natural outdoor setting. The field project will involve a number of field study kits. Each kit will consist of a backpack filled with laminated directions for a hands-on student investigation, all necessary supplies (i.e., paper, pencils tweezers, string, plastic bags, sample jars, magnifying glass etc.) for a class of thirty students, and questions for debriefing the lesson. The experiments/investigations will take place outside to allow the environment to become an integrating context for learning. Field kits will be designed for outdoor use, a debriefing and evaluation session will follow in the classroom. Kits will contain enough supplies to engage every student in the hands-on activity and ensure that no child is a bystander.
BCAF will offer workshops for all teachers at each participating school prior to introducing the project to the students. It will also be possible for BCAF to lead the investigations/experiments so teachers can get a better idea of how to conduct the activities.
Examples of activities:
Make a Park
Noahs Ark
