Welcome to the Canadian Marine Plastic Action & Collaboration Community of Practice (CAMPAC)
The Canadian Marine Plastics Action & Collaboration (CoP) is to strengthen national collaboration, knowledge sharing, and coordinated action among researchers, practitioners, industry, policymakers, and communities working to understand the sources, impacts, and solutions for marine plastic pollution.
Building on the Atlantic Canada Microplastics Working Group, coordinated by Coastal Action since 2019, this CoP will provide a formal, inclusive platform to connect diverse perspectives across regions and sectors nationally and co-led by PhD researcher from the University of Ottawa. It will foster open communication, knowledge sharing, and co-creation of resources. The CoP aims to amplify regional efforts, support collaboration and develop shared tools and strategies between academia, industry, and community groups.

Goals
|
Our goals are to:
1. Strengthen national collaboration, knowledge sharing, and coordinated action among researchers, practitioners, industry, policymakers, and communities working on marine plastic pollution. This includes consolidating information from across the country into a shared knowledge hub, with priorities guided by the Steering Committee. 2. Develop and maintain a national directory of individuals and organizations in the marine plastics field, creating an accessible database of key contributors across research, policy, industry, and advocacy. 3. Host a national workshop (virtual or in-person, funding dependent) to bring members and partners together for broader knowledge exchange, with topics set by the Steering Committee and facilitated by the CoP Lead. |
membership
Membership in the Community of Practice (CoP) is open to both organizations and individuals across Canada, encouraging broad participation regardless of location or affiliation. Organizational members include research institutions, multi-research initiatives, and industry associations working on marine plastics.
Individual members, researchers, practitioners, and others active in the field, can share knowledge, build connections, contribute to activities, and form working groups around shared interests.
An Observer option is also available for those who wish to stay informed and occasionally contribute expertise without participating in formal decision-making. Roles and expectations will be further defined as the CoP evolves.
A CAMPAC membership form has been developed to gather detailed information about the individuals and organizations that will shape this community of practice. If you are interested in becoming a member, please complete the form. For any additional information, please email [email protected].
