Coastal Action facilitates two province-wide litter clean-up programs that operate from early April to late November each year. Volunteers can choose to adopt a section of roadway with the NS Adopt-A-Highway Program or plan a one-time clean-up with the Great Nova Scotia Pick-Me-Up Program. For each program, we provide free clean-up supplies and assist volunteers in organizing safe and effective litter clean-ups.
Nova Scotia Adopt-A-Highway Program
The NS Adopt-A-Highway program offers volunteers the chance to adopt a section of roadway for a three-year term. During this period, volunteers commit to completing two clean-ups each year, typically one in the spring and another in the fall. After the three years, groups can either renew their commitment or disband. Once two clean-ups have been completed, signage will be provided at both ends of the adopted section to recognize the volunteer group's efforts.

The great Nova Scotia pICK-mE-uP program
The Great NS Pick-Me-Up program is a one-time litter clean-up initiative. You simply register a clean-up for an approved roadway, beach, shoreline, park, trail, or community of your choice, complete the clean-up, and there is no obligation to return to the same location. You can sign up for as many or as few clean-ups across the province as you wish.
